FEATURED ARTIST: GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS |
Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers takes acoustics very seriously. Ongiara, the group's third album, resonates with a rich, natural reverb and is imbued with a stirring strength inspired by Canada's majestic environment. Ten new songs breathe deeply, drawing themes of grace and insight into everyday life. Dekker's soft voice blends perfectly with deftly strummed guitar and banjo, while percussion, glockenspiel and tampani add texture. Though Dekker has been compared to legends like Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, his music is decidedly his own, bridging the gap between earthly and ethereal. Great Lake Swimmers has toured extensively in Canada, the US, Europe and Australia since 2004, sharing the stage with Feist, Andrew Bird, Vashti Bunyan, and Final Fantasy. |

STORY: CADENCE WEAPON'S BREAKING KAYFABE GOES STATESIDE |
Arguably one of the world's most recognized and respected independent record labels, Epitaph Records recently signed rapper and producer, Cadence Weapon. Partnering with Cadence Weapon's Canadian-based label, Upper Class Recordings, the two joined forces in releasing Breaking Kayfabe in the United States on March 13th, to coincide with the artist's appearance at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas (March 14th - 18th). The media, both mainstream and underground, touted him as an innovator and artist to watch. "Cadence Weapon's M.O. is breaking boundaries. Certainly he's a writer and not a biter" (Urb Magazine, "Illustrious Next 100"). The critically-acclaimed Cadence Weapon has garnered nominations from the Polaris Music Prize, Canadian Indie Awards and winner of a CBC Radio 3 Bucky Award. |
