FEATURED ARTIST: TOKYO POLICE CLUB |
With sold-out shows across North America, a bundle of upcoming festival appearances (including Glastonbury, Reading, Coachella, Lollapalooza, V-Fest, and Sasquatch), a new video in heavy rotation on MuchMusic, and a guest appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on April 19, Tokyo Police Club are poised to take over the world, one city at a time. |
With jarring guitar riffs, exuberant handclaps and futuristic lyrics, they unleash jittery indie-rock party tunes. The unpretentious, immediately likeable musicians of TPC have landed precisely in the middle of what's current. As for future predictions, according to Pitchfork Media, this "Toronto quartet has the potential to become a real five-tool player in indie for a long time." |

FEATURED STORY: "AND THE AWARD GOES TO..." |
After 37 years, the Juno Awards still lure out the movers, the shakers and the starlets of this country's music industry. Paquin Entertainment is proud to represent all of our nominees and winners. |
Receiving the Humanitarian Award, Tom Jackson is not only an accomplished musician and actor, but also a philanthropist, who was honoured for his outstanding contributions to the social landscape of Canada. In 1987, Jackson founded the Huron Carole Benefit Concert Tour that became an annual cross-country Christmas concert that has successfully raised millions to support Canada's food banks. |
Stephen Fearing snagged his first Juno nod for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. Noted for its potent combination of powerful lyrics and fluent guitar work, Yellowjacket showcases Fearing's pure vocals, unique sonic palette and masterful musicianship. |
Jim Byrnes received his inaugural Juno accolade for Blues Album of the Year for House of Refuge. For over 40 years, Byrnes has been traveling on the blues highway along with fellow legends, from Furry Lewis and Henry Townsend to Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Taj Mahal, Robert Cray and many others. |

JUST CALL HIM, AARON AGENT-OF-THE-YEAR SCHUBERT |
|
On March 31st at the British Columbia Touring Council's annual Pacific Contact in Burnaby, BC, Paquin agent Aaron Schubert was surprised to be presented with the award for BCTC Agent of the year of 2007.
|
|
The category was voted on by the members of BCTC and its board of directors. The British Columbia Touring Council (BCTC) is an organization that connects arts presenters from across the province representing soft seaters, arts councils, festivals and city arts departments. The annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding contributions to the BC touring industry. BCTC board member Jill Brooksbank (Mainstage Management) presented the award to Aaron with a glowing introduction. As nominees are not informed prior to the event, Aaron was quite surprised to hear he'd won the award. In his acceptance speech, Aaron thanked the presenters across BC for having faith in him and the artists on Paquin's roster.

CAILLOU DOES DUBAI |
After being blown away by Caillou's appearance in Beirut, Lebanon (2005), Kalimat Group International, together with Dubai's Ministry of Education, brought our loveable character to Abu Dhabi for a full week of performances in March! |
Although Al Jazeera only recently started airing Caillou on Dubai television, over 13,000 children traveled to the Dubai Creek Park, an outdoor amphitheatre, to watch the live production. Performing in English and even once in French, Caillou and his gang won the hearts of an audience chock-full of children singing along and screaming out to the characters! |
Apart from a sandstorm that temporarily seized the production's backdrop, the week was exceptional - from the packed shows to the parents' and teachers' enthusiastic responses. Other highlights included riding camels and taking a dip in the Persian Gulf! |

DID WE MENTION?
- Ohbijou received its annual CMW report card from Chart Attack, Canada's leading music authority. Described as, "Six-piece orchestral indie pop group who are so cute, young and melody-driven that their textured songs will put a spell on you. There's a guitar, bass, drum, keys, violin, electric cello, xylophone and some angelic harmonies," Ohbijou was awarded a whopping 90 out of 100! For more details on the band's report card, visit Chart Attack.
- Also included in the CMW report card hit list was a rating of Cadence Weapon's performance at the magazine's yearly party. Writer, Matt Littlefair, raved about the rapper/producer's set: "I don't know if I'll see anything this weekend that'll top this, and it's probably better that I not think about it. Cadence Weapon's syntactic contortions and Weasel's superb turntable skills made this set one that'll be remembered and talked about for a while." Cadence Weapon received one of the highest scores of the year with 96 out of 100! Check out Chart Attack's website for more info.
