FEATURED ARTIST: TRAVELLING K'NAAN |
Somali-born, Canadian-raised, artist K'NAAN's name means "traveller" in his native country, and lately, he's certainly been living up to his name. Touring the world with sons of the late Bob Marley, K'NAAN joined Damian and Stephen Marley on their Welcome to Jamrock Tour. |
The tour not only hit major cities in the United States and Canada, wowing crowds and packing venues all along the way, but now, K'NAAN has just completed the European leg of the tour. K'NAAN played in front of over 30,000 fans in 25 days and across nine countries (including stops at an outdoor festival in Rome and the legendary Paradiso church-turned-concert venue in Amsterdam). And while most bands would need a break after such a gruelling pace, K'NAAN is on his way to Australia. It seems that this traveller just doesn't want to stop. |

FEATURED ARTIST: BACHMAN CUMMINGS |
Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings have amassed a long list of accomplishments in their four decades as rock icons. From the release of five consecutive million-selling singles to being the first Canadian band to achieve a number one hit in the United States ("American Woman"), no rock fan could dispute Bachman and Cummings' impact on rock n' roll history. |
Bachman Cummings are not slowing down anytime soon. In 2005, they were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and lent their talents to the International Live 8 concert series. After releasing The Bachman Cummings Songbook album last year, they launched a 17-date National tour, followed by the release of a concert DVD, Bachman Cummings First Time Around. |
With the release of their new CD, Jukebox this month, Bachman Cummings are gearing up for yet another busy year of memorable live shows and bona fide rock music. |

Blue King Brown (BKB)
What began on the streets as an experiment in percussion has evolved into a musical attitude for the band Blue King Brown. This Australian group has developed a solid fan base for their international-flavoured music through constant touring and dedication to their evolving sound. Originally a five-piece band, the group now ranges from 7-10 members in high-energy live shows led by fiery front woman Natalie Paapaa.

Land of Talk
Elizabeth Powell, singer and guitarist of the band Land of Talk got her career started by trading in the school of Suzuki Violin for an education that comes from playing with as many musicians as possible. Performing as a bassist and violinist for other bands in the Montreal music scene, Powell eventually released her own solo EP. Later, Powell teamed up with friends Bucky and Chris and from this union, Land of Talk was born.

Warrior Gospel Band
With power and fervor as big as their hometown of Austin, Texas, Warrior Gospel Band is a dynamic musical force. Guided by the sound of traditional gospel music, but sampling in soulful R&B, this group's performance team ranges from one to eleven musicians, and the group is as comfortable playing for a sold-out concert hall as they are for Sunday morning church.

DID WE MENTION?
- String sensation Bowfire premiered their latest choreography, lighting, and stage show to a packed venue in Ontario last month. This show was a remarkable achievement for the band, not just because of the eight standing ovations they received, but because the high-energy show was captured in HD for an upcoming TV special. Renowned for its classical, jazz, bluegrass, and Cape Breton-style fiddling, this special will mark Bowfire's fourth concert release; the show is slated to air throughout the United States this fall. Visit Bowfire's site to check out their music.
- Where the Bungalows Roam, the latest CD from Jim Bryson has been embraced by critics across the country, praising it for its meaningful lyrics and soft melodies. Canadian music authorities, Chartattack, describe the album as, "Bryson's best yet," while Toronto's must-read entertainment weekly, Now Magazine proclaims it a "masterpiece." To check out tracks from the album, visit Jim's website.
- An estimated 19.4 million viewers tuned in to the season finale of the hit show House. - Fiddle player Sierra Noble will be making a trip to Ottawa this Canada Day. Sierra was invited to perform on Parliament Hill to celebrate the day's festivities, which will be broadcast nationally.
