| FEATURED ARTIST: HAYDEN |
| Hayden, a Toronto singer-songwriter known for combining elements of both rock and folk, has been releasing distinctively touching music for over a decade. He began recording on a 4-track in the early 1990's and released his first official LP, Everything I Long For in 1995. The debut disc appealed to critics and fans alike, making many year-end top ten lists. Over the next few years, Hayden released various indie singles including the title track to the Steve Buscemi-directed film "Trees Lounge" in 1996. Hayden's second LP, a more band oriented affair titled The Closer I Get, was his first major label outing. Hayden returned in 2001 with Skyscraper National Park, an 11-track disc recorded at his home studio. In 2004, Hayden released his long awaited follow up album, Elk Lake Serenade, and toured Canada with Cuff the Duke acting as back up band. This coming November, Hayden will be heading out on a European tour with The National. |
| Watch for a new Hayden album to be released in early 2008. |

| FEATURED STORY: BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE SHINES IN VANITY FAIR |
| Buffy Sainte-Marie is one of the folk heroes whose full-page portrait is featured in the November edition of Vanity Fair! The 20 page photo essay by acclaimed photographer Annie Liebowitz is titled "All Over This Land," and takes a look at contemporary and classic folk musicians. |
| Of the photo shoot Buffy said, "Annie Liebowitz was just wonderful and a whole lot of fun. Love at first sight! She and her team were really helpful, both personally and professionally. Although the photo chosen for Vanity Fair looks a little serious, both Richie Havens and I just loved our time together with Annie." |
| The essay closes with photos of Buffy Sainte-Marie and Richie Havens, friends since Greenwich Village in the 1960's, holding hands across the pages at a scout camp on Staten Island. The photo is among the most powerful and detailed of the collection. The caption reads "The Trailblazers" and trailblazers they are. |

Dance Party of Newfoundland
Newfoundland's hit sketch comedy group has been performing sold-out shows across the country and their fan-base is spreading like wildfire. They have appeared on national television in a CBC comedy special with Kids in the Hall's Kevin McDonald, and on CBC radio's Madly Off In All Directions.

Hayden
Combining elements of rock and folk music, along with disturbingly personal sentiments and a voice that channels both the falsetto highs of Neil Young and the wavering raspy low tones of Leonard Cohen, Toronto's Hayden has spent most of the last decade creating uniquely affecting music. Early next year Hayden will release his fifth full-length record.
|
The Fugitives
The Fugitives have been classified under many guises: slam folk, folk hop, spoken word cabaret. Since their formation three years ago, The Fugitives have been everywhere, from old bank vaults in London to university classes in Germany to recent main stage appearances on the Canadian folk festival circuit. Music like this forces us to listen with both our head and our heart, and in times such as these, it is a cause for celebration.
|
Norman Foote
Norman Foote is an award winning entertainer from Vancouver who has received international acclaim for his song writing, outrageous props and off beat sense of humour. His stage show is uniquely Norman and innovative both musically and visually. With finely crafted routines and songs, Norman is one of North America's most highly regarded entertainer's of his kind.
|
Plants & Animals
The band humbly describes themselves as, "honest like a dog drinking water or a tree falling on a car and we do it with nothing but two guitars and a drum kit so we're not trying to fool anyone."
|
| In turn, the Montreal-based band have received much praise including Exclaim Magazine, "...profound yet unpretentious, this is the kind of stuff that can make people cry and fist pump at the same time." |
Wil
Developing his expansive roots-rock sound and world-weary lyricism while building a dedicated following for his famously intense live shows, Wil's music has been described by critics as having so much "power and soul it could stop your heart."
|
| Wil's sophomore album, December, embodies all of its charismatic creator's inherent dichotomies and, above all, yearning hope. |
Young Rival
Young Rival have chiseled their sound and arrived at something effortlessly cool. This four-piece is a rock band with the subtly of The Zombies and the brashness of Arctic Monkeys. They make intense guitar music influenced by a time when rock and roll was young and fearless, played in a time when we've forgotten just how good that sounds.
