| FEATURE ARTIST: BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE |
| Buffy Sainte-Marie will receive the Lifetime Contribution to Aboriginal Music Award at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Toronto on November 28th for her dedication to Native American international activism. For 40 years Buffy has vocalized her distaste for the exploitation of Native American artists and performers and worked to protect indigenous intellectual property. |
| Throughout her career Buffy has made 17 albums, won an Academy Award for the song "Up Where We Belong," and wrote legendary songs such as "Until It's Time for You to Go" and the widely recognized peace movement anthem, "Universal Soldier." |
| Running For The Drum (Gypsy Boy/EMI), out October 28th, reunites Buffy with former co-producer, Chris Birkett. Buffy uses the songs to cover an array of themes, including great loves and protest against environmental greed. In support of the release, Buffy will be performing October 31th in Toronto at Massey Hall with contemporary, Richie Havens. |

| HOW THE WEST WAS WON: THE 2008 WCMA'S |
|
Artists from across the west coast and prairies descended on Edmonton, Alberta on October 19 for an annual musical tradition, The Western Canadian Music Awards. The 2008 WCMA held in the Myer Horowitz Theatre, was yet another successful event for Paquin Entertainment and its artists.

Corb Lund did not disappoint the hometown audience, taking home the WCMA for Outstanding Roots Recording for his album, Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier! (Stony Plain), adding another award to an already impressive list.
|
|
The winning tradition continued in 2008 for Paquin during the industry awards brunch, held Saturday, October 18. Paquin Entertainment's agency division president, Julien Paquin was on hand to receive the WCMA for Agency of the Year.

|

| THE SADIES IN THE STUDIO |
|
The other Good brothers, Travis and Dallas, better known as The Sadies, have been busy throughout 2008. With an active year of touring throughout North America and Europe almost done, the Sadies have somehow found time to record a new album.
|
|
The Sadies just finished recording a series of country classics with John Doe which is expected for release in early 2009. The Sadies country classics will proceed the much anticipated follow up to the Juno nominated New Seasons (Outside).
|
|
The Sadies have begun work on the follow-up which will be produced by Gary Louris of The Jayhawks and is expected sometime in the fall of 2009.
|
|
Keep an eye out for more exciting news from the Sadies as well as many more tour dates to come.

An Horse
Australian duo, An Horse, consisting of Kate Cooper and Damon Cox, have been gaining a considerable amount of buzz with North American fans following their hugely successful US tour with Tegan and Sara. With the release of their debut EP, Not Really Scared (Mom and Pop), An Horse will be on the road throughout North America in late 2008.

Doodlebops
The children's musical comedy group Doodlebops are always on the lookout for a good time. The Doodlebops television program, airing weekdays in Canada on CBC Television and throughout the United States and Britain on the Disney Channel, joins the group as they hang out and practice their song and dance routines in the coolest rehearsal space imaginable. The Doodlebops adapted stage show has taken them to over 80 cities in North America, performing for kids everywhere!

Jimmy Rankin
Cape Breton native Jimmy Rankin knows how to make a lasting impression. He has won four ECMA and Juno Songwriter of the Year Awards for the chart-topping "Fare Thee Well Love," "You Feel The Same Way Too," "Followed Her Around" and "Midnight Angel." Jimmy's latest release, Edge of Day (Song Dog Music) is a masterstroke of an alternative-country, adult-contemporary or rock-flavoured arrangement depicting his life.

Mark Berube & The Patriotic Few
Half Quebecois, half Manitoban and living in Montreal, Mark Berube from an early age has been in love with the sounds of Bob Dylan, Keith Jarrett and Nina Simone. It shows on Mark's latest release, What The Boat Gave The River (Redux/KBM), recently nominated for a WCMA for Outstanding Roots Recording Solo. Keep an eye out for Mark this fall as he tours across Canada.

Tom Fun Orchestra
When most people think Nova Scotian music, they think of power pop or Celtic, so when a bizarre Tom Waits-meets-Moulin Rouge 11-piece band, Tom Fun Orchestra, comes along, you can't help but ask what the hell is going on. The Tom Fun Orchestra will be crossing the country in 2009 supporting their debut, You Will Land With a Thud (Company House).

| 2008 IS THE YEAR OF THE TURTLE FOR FRANKLIN |

On October 8th KOBA Entertainment premiered its latest live stage production, Franklin and the Adventures of the Courageous Knights in Paris, France. The latest Franklin production was written and directed by KOBA Entertainment artistic director Patti Caplette, with music and lyrics by Florence K and executive produced by Gilles Paquin.

Franklin's Parisian home for a 40 performance, four-week run is Le Grand Rex Theatre - a known Parisian landmark and replica of New York's Radio City Music Hall.
|
|
Throughout the remainder of 2008, Franklin and his friends will be traveling across Canada bringing holiday cheer to the nation with Franklin's Family Christmas Concert, an exciting and festive experience for kids of all ages. The tour begins November 5th in Lloydminster, stopping in cities across the country including Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Halifax.

Paquin Entertainment would like to congratulate agency president, Julien Paquin on his appointment to the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) Board of Directors. Julien is a second generation board member, preceded by his father Gilles Paquin on the CARAS board of directors. CARAS serves as an umbrella organization to the Juno Awards - Canada's Music Awards, MusiCan - the CARAS Music Education Program and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The Music Nova Scotia Gala Awards will be taking place this year during Nova Scotia Music Week, November 6-9. The Tom Fun Orchestra has four nominations for their debut album, You Will Land With a Thud (Company House Records). The eleven-piece band is nominated in the Album of the Year, New Artist/Group Recording of the Year and Group of the Year categories, as well as for Aliant Entertainer of the Year. Dave Gunning will be performing during Music Nova Scotia Week at the gala awards show and is also nominated for two awards including Aliant Entertainer of the Year and Folk Recording of the Year.

Comedian turned political pundit, Bill Maher's latest documentary Religulous, has been called "One of the funniest movies of the year" by Marshall Fine of Star Magazine. Maher's new film contains a cameo appearance by Tal Bachman who offers up his views and opinions in Maher's latest documentary release examining world religions.

Inuit throat singer, Tanya Tagaq has taken to the road supporting her latest release, the Aboriginal Award nominated Auk/Blood (Jericho Beach Music). The national tour will see Tagaq perform across Canada beginning in Vancouver on October 23rd, concluding in November with four Ontario dates supporting Apostle of Hustle.
