| FEATURED ARTIST: JAPANDROIDS |
After years of working the Vancouver scene and seeing little in the way of rewards, Japandroids were ready to call it quits. Now one record later, they're breaking down doors with their distortion filled album, Post-Nothing. Immediately following its May release, the boys found themselves on the cover of Exclaim and the Georgia Straight, and were reviewed by music authorities from Spin to Pitchfork. Lauded as playing "terminally catchy music played with punk's enthusiasm and velocity that... makes you feel like joining in to bash along" (Pitchfork), the Japandroids have also been invited to play at this year's Pitchfork Music Festival.
In the midst of launching a major tour this spring, singer-guitarist Brian King was hospitalized with a perforated ulcer. Now with Brian in recovery, their tour rescheduled, indie media's attention firmly in their grasp and a new record deal with Polyvinyl that will see Post-Nothing released worldwide on August 4, Japandroids have been to the edge and back, and there's no telling what boundaries they'll break through next.

Two years since their last national tour, Bachman-Cummings are making a return to the Canadian touring circuit this summer, making this a must for your 'memorable rock n' roll experiences' list.

With a concert packed full of all their chart-topping hits, fans are in for a treat with the latest tour. Burton Cummings' voice is razor-sharp and Randy Bachman's guitar licks remain world-class, along with the charisma, enthusiasm and famed talent of Canada's greatest rockers. Joining the duo as a guest for most dates on the national tour is Memphis native, Booker T., the renowned organist and leader of Stax house band, Booker T. & the MG's.
If you find yourself in Moncton on June 27, Bachman-Cummings is set to rock the kick-off of the Magnetic Hill Music Festival, supporting Bon Jovi. A raucous musical jam for all generations: not to be missed!

| WEST MEETS EAST DURING TRADE INITIATIVE IN BEIJING |
Venturing a little farther east than Toronto, Paquin Entertainment's Agency President, Julien Paquin, rounded out April and began May at the 'epicenter of China's hot new alternative music scene.'
Participating in transmitCHINA, a four-day trade initiative in Beijing, Julien was among the 23 Canadian delegates exploring the changing face of China's music marketplace. As a featured speaker during the event, he addressed the challenges and opportunities for the music business and touring in Canada.
With transmitCHINA's goal of relationship building and strengthening ties between the Canadian music sector and other pacific regions, it is hoped that the event has inspired reciprocity - one that will see more Chinese bands visit Canada, and an increase in Canadian bands touring China.

Arietta
Equal parts pop song-writing and technical musicianship, Arietta are difficult to pigeon-hole. Their brand new album, Migration, and its wilfully experimental tendencies bring to mind the great songwriters of old, while their brazen naivety represents youth in its purest form.
Christina Martin
With a steady rhythm and swelling strings, "Two Hearts" opens Martin's sophomore album of the same name that won her the 2009 ECMA Pop Recording of the Year. Merging country flourishes with folk sensibility, Martin's song writing plots vulnerability against her strong vocals in a manner reminiscent of Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch.
Coeur de Pirate
Béatrice Martin had been playing piano since she was a toddler and at 18 she decided to play for an audience. She booked four shows under the name of Coeur de Pirate, and with a little help from MySpace she snagged a record deal. Following shows in France and Belgium this past year (and some public enthusiasm from celebrity-blogger, Perez Hilton) her self-titled debut has just been released by Universal.
Dodger
Underground favourite Dodger's distinct brand of reggae-rock caught the attention of JUNO Award winning producer, Jag Tanna (former guitarist for I Mother Earth), in 2007. Their debut album Musth landed them on the cover of The View (Hamilton's leading alternative magazine) and they have recently been selected to submit the leadoff track on Big Rock brewery's Untapped Compilation Volume 2.
The Ghost Is Dancing
In 2007, The Ghost Is Dancing's album The Darkest Spark was released to rave reviews from Now, Chart Attack and Spin. Two years later, they have released Battles On - a record that rarely lets up and delivers on the promise of a band that has come into its own.
Hooded Fang
In the past year, Hooded Fang released a self-produced EP that earned them showcases at both Pop Montreal and Canadian Music Week. The self-titled EP offers a taste of what the band is best at: shamelessly plundering all musical genres in the service of crafting the perfect pop tune.
Jeffery Straker
If you put a little Elton John and a little Rufus Wainwright in a blender, tossed in a dash of Freddie Mercury and Ben Folds - then hit puree - you'd get Jeffery Straker. In 2008, he toured with former Spice Girl, Mel C, across 80 dates. His most recent release is the chamber-pop album Step Right Up, produced by Justin Gray (Joss Stone, Emma Bunton, Jacksoul).
Lighthouse
Lighthouse burst on the scene in 1969 with a blend of rock, jazz and classical influences that defied all conventions. They received four successive JUNO Awards for Group of the Year while going gold and platinum on nine albums between 1970 and 1974. Today, Lighthouse is creating the same magic at The Empire Square Live Festival on July 24 in Belleville, ON and at Harris Park on July 25 in London, On.
Rubies
Danceable folk, homemade disco and lost love laments; these are just a few facets of the California-based duo. Billboard praised their debut album, Explode From The Center as "sophisticated, folky pop" that also garnered rave reviews from magazines such as Vice, Esquire, Artrocker, The Fader and more.

| CMT HITS THE ROAD WITH TARA ORAM AND THE HIGGINS |
The first ever "CMT on Tour" is making its way across Canada this summer with stops in Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Halifax, and four hot, young country music artists are along for the 19-city ride.
CMT stars Tara Oram and The Higgins are among the artists playing their way across Canada, and will be personally available to fans through CMT's interactive coverage of the tour. Tara's debut album Chasing the Sun earned her an ECMA award and JUNO nomination for 2009 Country Recording of the Year. The Higgins have been working hard in support of their album Real Thing; their single "Second Hand Car" has been rising steadily and is currently #3 on CMT's Chevy Cross Canada Countdown.
"CMT on Tour" is taking fan access to the next level by posting pictures, video and blogs from the artists on tour and from their community to the official website. Running alongside the tour in select cities is "CMT's Karaoke Star" competition, where fans compete for a $10,000 prize and viewers control who wins the competition.

When Perez Hilton speaks, the internet listens, and Coeur De Pirate's self-titled debut album was recently featured on the mega-blogger's very public must listen list with the following critique: "You will love it instantly!" We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

September 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' Abbey Road. In honour of the historic day, Classic Albums Live will be performing the album live from start to finish at Toronto's Massey Hall with a 17 piece band of handpicked musicians to perfectly capture the landmark sound. Tickets for the September 26th show are now on sale at Massey Hall.
If you've flipped through Billboard recently, you've seen Halifax darling, Jenn Grant! Heralded as one of Billboard Music's North Stars of 2009, her album Echoes was praised as "smoky vocals over well-constructed, carefully crafted songs," by "a jazzier version of Aimee Mann."
With eight JUNO Awards under their belts for Country Group of the Year, you would think that The Good Brothers would have made some time to rest on their laurels, but 30 years of relentless touring and album releases say otherwise. In March The Good Brothers launched a twenty-two date tour in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands that marked another elite landmark in their careers - their 31st European tour!
The Amazing Kreskin is Late Night with Jimmy Fallon's first returning guest! His March 21st appearance on the show was re-aired weeks after it was shown live, Jimmy brought Kreskin back for a dramatic demonstration in May and was so enthralled that he re-aired Kreskin's segment the following night. A feat only Kreskin could perform!
Indie monolith, Pitchfork, has gazed into its indie crystal ball and foretold the future of Deep Dark Woods, predicting that Winter Hours will "hit cultural paydirt" with its alt-country sensibilities. Winter Hours was recorded with JUNO Award-winning producer/musician Steve Dawson at Vancouver's famed recording studio The Factory.
K'NAAN's Troubadour is on fire in Canada! With over 40,000 copies sold to date, Troubadour continues to gain momentum - it's #83 of top R&B albums on Billboard Canada and "ABC's" is nominated for a MuchMusic Video Award for Best International Video by a Canadian artist.
