About
When it comes to describing Half Moon Run, labels fall short. Alternativepop, pastoral folk, even psychedelic indie rock, none quite capture thearrangements and harmonies that are at once spiritual and tightrope-walking.These compositions charm the ear before fully taking hold of the soul.
When Devon Portielje (vocals, guitar, piano, percussion), Conner Molander (vocals, guitar, keyboard, piano, pedal steel, bass, harmonica) and Dylan Phillips (vocals, drums, piano, keyboard) released Dark Eyes in 2012, success wasimmediate. Two songs made the BBC’s A-list in the UK, while the debut albumwent Platinum in Canada. It also caught the attention of the prestigiousAmerican magazine Rolling Stone, whichnamed Half Moon Run a “band to watch,” and of NME, which praised the record as “stunning.” With Sun Leads Me On (2015), the triojoined by Isaac Symonds toured extensively across Europe, North America andAustralia, and the album went Gold in Canada. In Québec, Half Moon Run hasenjoyed exceptional recognition, winning Félix Awards for “Album or Show of theYear Other Interpretation” (2013), “Québec Artist Most Successful OutsideQuébec” (2016) and “Anglophone Show of the Year” (2017 and 2022) at the ADISQgalas.
Fall 2019 saw the release of the band’s thirdalbum A Blemish in the Great Light, whichearned the Juno Award for “Adult Alternative Album of the Year” the followingyear. In 2020 came the Seasons ofChange EP and the pandemic project The Covideo Sessions.
