Jully Black is a Canadian icon and global star, celebrated as Canada’s Queen of R&B Soul. The daughter of an inspiring immigrant Jamaican mother, Jully has built a career spanning music, theatre, television, and activism, establishing herself as a powerhouse performer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, motivational speaker, and wellness leader.
A multiple JUNO Award winner and Canada’s Walk of Fame inductee, Jully is also a plaঞnum-selling recording artist and was named one of CBC Music’s 25 Greatest Canadian Singers Ever. Her commanding vocals, electrifying performances, and chart- topping hits across pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, and dance music have made her one of Canada’s most acclaimed entertainers. Jully’s dynamic stage presence has led her to perform on some of the world’s biggest stages alongside global stars including Elton John, Alicia Keys, Céline Dion, Black Eyed Peas, Jessie Reyez, Drake, and Kanye West to name a few. On screen and stage, Jully has earned criঞcal acclaim, appearing on Run the Burbs, Prey Hard Cases, The Coroner, and Diggstown, earning a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Guest Performance in a Drama Series and winning the CSA in 2024 for Etalk: In Conversation With Jully Black as Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program. Her award-winning theatre work includes Da Kink in My Hair and Caroline, or Change, for which she won both the Toronto Theatre Critics Award and the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role in Musical Theatre.
Jully is a passionate advocate for the Black community, human rights, Indigenous rights, immigrant rights, and civil rights, using her platform to drive meaningful change. In 2022, inspired by her mother’s guidance, she founded the Jully Black Family Foundation providing scholarships and bursaries to support women pursuing education while caring for their families.
In 2024, she received the Billboard Canada Women in Music Impact Award for uplifting Black and Indigenous voices and narrated Paid in Full: The Bale for Black Music, a groundbreaking documentary series about Black artists fighting for fair pay, which won the CSA for Best History Documentary Program.
In 2025, Jully headlined a sold-out Songs and Story Tour across Canada and was recognized by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the most powerful women in Canadian entertainment.
2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year. She has a memoir in the works, and by popular demand, she brought the Jully Black Live Experience to smaller venues across the country, bringing high-quality R&B performances to communities that do not often have access to shows of this scale. Fans are also eagerly anticipating her new EP. Her most recent album, 3 Rocks and a Slingshot (2022), featured the singles “Half Empty,” “No Relation,” and “Time for Jesus,” with Half Empty reaching #1 on the iTunes R&B chart and the album hitting #1 on iTunes R&B and #3 overall.
