TAURO is an alternative indie-jazz duo from Toronto, fronted by pianist/singer-songwriter Cynthia Tauro and Brendan Canning, founding member of Broken Social Scene. The pair began writing together in 2022 at Cynthia’s home studio in Toronto’s west end, quickly discovering a creative chemistry that blurred the lines between genres. Their sessions expanded to include an impressive roster of collaborators, including Juno Award winners Spencer “Moose” Mussio and Thom D’Arcy, Kintaro Akiyama (Birds of Bellwoods), and Laurent Bourque (Wardrobe).

 Fusing influences of jazz, neo-soul, R&B, and indie rock, TAURO has carved out a sound that feels both soulful and fresh. Their early singles introduced listeners to that distinctive blend, with “Great Minds” earning airplay from KCRW, KEXP, and CBC, where it reached Top 5 on CBC’s Top 20. With their debut full-length album slated for release through Birthday Cake Records in spring 2026, TAURO is poised to bring their dynamic live energy and genre-bending sound to festival stages across North America and beyond.
