From the very first notes, Valence conjures a prism of colors adorned with flowers and poetic garlands. The indie-pop project of Quebec City’s Vincent Dufour serves as an outlet for his passions; when Valence arrives, he dives deep.

Valence’s first musical sketches appeared in 2019 with the release of the Cristobal Cartel EP — a smooth offering brimming with spacious arrangements and impressionistic lyrics. A year later, the singer-songwriter took home top honors at the 24th edition of Les Francouvertes, winning first place among dozens of other awards. This was followed by his debut album Pêle-Mêle, released in 2021 on the ChiviChivi label. The full-length record delivers rich, dreamlike, and fiery music that captures the exuberant chaos of one’s twenties. It marked a resounding beginning for Valence’s career, earning him the Revelation of the Year award at the GAMIQ.

2024 stands as a year of consecration for Valence: a second album (La nuit s’achève) and an EP of reinterpretations (Correspondances sous somnifères), the receipt of the Karim-Ouellet Award, and a first-ever nomination at the ADISQ Gala in the Pop Album of the Year category. Produced by Alexandre Martel (Alex Burger, Lou-Adriane Cassidy, Thierry Larose), La nuit s’achève carries the spirit of a concept album without strictly being one. Eschewing narrative constraints, Valence instead presents a sweeping, all-encompassing work that shows he has reached full artistic maturity—an artist now able to wield music in all the power of its medium.
